Bats open with win in Brainerd
(BRAINERD, MN)
Center fielder Eric Marzec recorded four hits and collected five RBIs as the St. Cloud River Bats (1-0) defeated the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers (0-1) 10-8 in front of 1,429 fans at Stewart C. Mills Field.
David Deminsky (1-0) registered the win for St. Cloud, tossing five innings of two-run, six-hit baseball.
Tyler Fries allowed two unearned runs in three innings of relief, before Kurtis Frymier pitched the final inning for St. Cloud.
The River Bats scored seven runs in the game's first three innings off Lunkers right-hander Zach Kenyon, who was hit with the loss (0-1). St. Cloud pounded out 13 hits.
Danny Oh finished 2-for-4 with an RBI, as did Frymier who began the game as the Bats designated hitter.
The same two teams hook up tonight at Joe Faber Field. First pitch is set for 7:05. Baseball legend Paul Molitor will be on hand to throw out the first pitch.
