River Bats drop home opener

Dan Betteridge and Eric Marzec notched three hits apiece in a losing effort as St. Cloud (1-1) lost its home opener 4-0 to the Brainerd Lakes Area Lunkers (1-1) in front 2,129 fans at Joe Faber Field.

Right-hander Dan Straily (0-1) was the tough luck loser allowing two runs, both unearned, while striking out four in six innings of work.

Junior Drew Palen tossed 2.3 innings of relief out of the Bats bullpen and allowed two runs, both earned, while striking out one.

Blake Cover added a hit for St. Cloud in a seven-hit attack in which the Bats left 11 men on base.

The Alexandria Beetles (1-1) come to town tonight for the front end of a home and home. First pitch is set for 7:05 p.m. The Bats travel to Alexandria for 3:05 p.m. start on Sunday.
