Roof, Schwartz shine in Bats loss

(ALEXANDRIA, MN)

Jonathan Roof (Michigan State) had three hits and right-hander Blake Schwartz (Mankato) pitched seven strong innings as the St. Cloud River Bats (1-3) fell 4-2 to the home-standing Alexandria Beetles (3-1) in front of 1,346 fans at Knute Nelson Memorial Park.

Roof doubled and scored in the fifth inning, while Schwartz allowed just one unearned run on five hits en route to the no decision.

Jayson Langfels smacked a walk-off three-run home run off Bats reliever Kurtis Frymier. Drew Palen (0-1) grabbed the loss after hitting the eventual winning run with a pitch to start the ninth.

Nick Longmire (Pacific) singled home a run in the fifth inning and finished 1-for-4. Eric Marzec (Youngstown State) extended his hitting streak to four games, doubling and coming around to score in the eighth inning.

St. Cloud travels to Duluth tomorrow for the first of two games with the Huskies. Nick Sutherland (Viterbo) takes the hill for the Bats. First pitch is set for 7:05 with a 6:35 p.m. pregame show on 1390 the FAN.
