The Most Valuable Bats of the past two seasons, outfielder Tim Wheeler (2007) and second baseman Derek McCallum (2008), were among 11 former River Bats selected in the 2009 Major League Baseball draft Tuesday through Thursday.

The St. Cloud River Bats and the Northwoods League are proud to bring good, wholesome family entertainment at affordable prices to Central Minnesota. The Northwoods League is a summer collegiate league comprised of fourteen teams of the top college players from across the nation and North America. Each team is operated similar to a professional minor league team, providing players an opportunity to play under the same conditions using wooden bats, minor league specification baseballs, experiencing overnight road trips, and playing nightly before fans in a stadium. The River Bats and the Northwoods League are dedicated to developing collegiate players from strong baseball programs and bringing fun-filled family atmosphere, along with great competition, to each fan visiting the ballpark.
The 2009 season will mark the River Bats 13th year in the Northwoods League. Over the 12 previous seasons the River Bats earned a spot in the playoffs nine times, advancing to the championship series sixs times and winning the Northwoods League Championships three times. In fact, no other team in Northwoods League history has won more playoff games than the River Bats. Off the field the River Bats have excelled as well averaging nearly 2,000 fans per game over 34 games played each summer in central Minnesota. The River Bats would like to thank you in advance for helping build a community-based ball club of which all of central Minnesota can be proud.
